Developed by the R&D team at ELEKS, the innovative concept app for Apple Watch that allows managing the basic functions of the Tesla electric car received global media coverage
February 12, 2015 - Lviv, Ukraine – ELEKS is proud to announce the release of the concept “Apple Watch. Tesla Car. How Far Can We Drive Them?” showcasing the capabilities of Apple Watch via an application which allows controlling a Tesla Model S. The concept has already received sensational coverage from world’s top media including Mashable, The Verge, CNet and many others. Markiyan Matsekh, the leader of the project and ELEKS' Product Manager, was invited to speak at the Exploring Apple Watch meetup in New York, NY on February 25th. The company experts will also visit California on February 16-21.
The concept includes an article on the company’s R&D blog, ELEKS Labs, a working application, a screencast of the application and the source code featured on the GitHub code repository. The idea behind the concept was to develop an Apple Watch application that would let the user access basic information about Tesla Model S and allow one to quickly manage it. The ELEKS team was determined to implement the available Tesla control functionality and adapt the UX to the context of Apple Watch. As a result, ELEKS developed an application that allows opening and closing the door, switching on the headlights, beeping and showing an overview of the car, its battery life, temperature, mileage and much more right from your wrist.
The Apple Watch-Tesla concept was extremely well received, being covered by major media including Mashable, The Verge, CNet, MacRumors, Business Insider, USA Today, Epoch Times, BGR, Cult of Mac, iPhone Hacks, Popular Science, Financial Review, Softpedia, Transport Evolved, Ubergizmo, CNN Money and 600 more online magazines and blogs. The ELEKS Labs article was read more than 26,000 times in one week, while the screencast video received more than 230,000 views and growing.
“At ELEKS, we enjoy exploring new technologies and with Tesla and Apple Watch being the hottest tech products, we knew we had to make them work together,” says Markiyan Matsekh, ELEKS’ Mobility & Wearables Product Manager. “Consequently, we were among the first to generate a reasoned public opinion of Apple Watch capability based on profound research, creative vision and the ability to overcome technical limitations.”
The concept was released with the joint effort of Oleksandr Malyarenko (co-author, iOS engineer), Oleksandr Bolhovetskyy (iOS engineer), Roman Kabachenko, Viktor Maleichyk (concept co-authors), Vlad Krichenko (designer) and Markiyan Matsekh (project leader).
After the successful R&D of the Apple Watch-Tesla app, ELEKS is already actively exploring and developing a similar application for Android Wear to compare the two major wearables platforms.
