Since it was Yuriy’s first certification of such scale, we asked him to share his experience with us.
Can you share a few words on the purpose of the certification?
According to the official materials, an AWS Certified Solutions Architect has hands-on experience using AWS services to design highly available, cost efficient, fault tolerant, and scalable distributed systems. The certification is designed for individuals who perform the role of a Solutions Architect and proves their ability to:
- Define and gather requirements for determining a solution to be built on the basis of architecture best practices;
- Be capable of providing guidance on architectural best practices to system administrators and developers throughout the life cycle of the project.
How was the idea for the certification generated?
The natural reason for this idea is that ELEKS has been actively developing solutions for the Cloud over the last few years. Furthermore, an immense increase in demand for such systems stimulated momentum as well. Since we provide solutions for various industries, they are technologically diverse and require different design approaches; therefore, we intended to acknowledge our expertise in the eyes of our potential customers.
As for Amazon Web Services, we chose this certification because it is the most popular among the very few Cloud Solutions Architect certifications currently available. Moreover, the certification exam is challenging, and at the same time well designed and comprehensive. In addition, being an AWS Consulting Partner, we wanted to become certified and be among the first companies in Ukraine who would earn such a valuable credential.
How did you prepare for the certification?
The best possible preparation is, without a doubt, a few years of hands-on experience with AWS services. In addition, to systemize my knowledge and skills, I took a three-day training course in the Czech Republic led by AWS trainers, which was amazing. Other than learning a few important topics, the training made me realize that, with my current experience with designing solutions for our customers, I was completely ready to take the exam.
What benefits has ELEKS gained from this certification?
Cloud solutions are estimated to have a vivid tendency to be developed in the future. As a result of this certification, ELEKS has accepted the challenge of being and innovative software company and acknowledged that we are the early adopters of new trends.
What personal advantages are there?
This certification is a beneficial recognition of my skills as an individual responsible for Cloud stream at ELEKS R&D. I have grasped the possibility of professional development. Now, I’m driven towards achieving the next levels of AWS certification when they become available.
