16th of April 2020 – Leading international software firm ELEKS hosts a first-of-its-kind online design marathon on Thursday, joined by guest speakers from German automotive supremo BMW group and Swiss design studio Bernhard Burkard. Titled Design for Business: Online Mode, the panel will explore how digital collaboration could overcome the current lockdown situation – potentially shaping a new way of working in the process.
Experts include Slava Shestopalov and Kateryna Korovkina, ELEKS design managers; Sebastian Gier, senior UX designer at BMW group and founder of Designdrives; Uliana Bashchuk, senior experience designer at ELEKS; Thomas Burkard, co-founder of Bernhard Burkard Industrial Design; and Mariia Hrabovska, ELEKS product designer.
As the world’s organisations are forced to undergo an unprecedented transformation, they must consider how to optimise and shift business processes, how to keep customers in times of adversity and how to deliver a better experience on a shoestring budget.
This Thursday, the six design leaders will delve into the potential for long-term digital collaboration, discussing areas such as:
Building business processes through online workshops
Beyond COVID-19, online collaboration will become an essential part of building global products and services. The marathon will unpick common objections to using online workshops and the many benefits of making the switch to digital – emphasised by case studies.
Pivoting to digital without losing customers
Could the crisis have a silver lining? Can innovative businesses retain – even expand – their customer base? Real-world examples will spotlight how product design frameworks can help companies rapidly generate new ideas and ensure smooth service, to make smarter development decisions and stay ahead of competitors.
How design drives innovation
Why is design fundamental to cutting-edge innovation? The discussion will explore use cases, stories and principles, sharing valuable insight on how design is making tangible changes to our world.
How to deliver a better experience on a shoestring budget
How can you bridge the gap between stakeholders and target audiences through digital? The talk looks at how can designers conduct discovery, user research, usability testing etc, without the need for travel – ultimately providing a better user experience on a tight budget.
Design the meanings to implement technology
Every product has a meaning – perhaps several – and these meanings can shift with changing user needs. Using real examples, the marathon will analyse how designing the meaning of products/technology can make them more accessible to people, and how fundamental this is for driving technological innovation.
Cognitive tips and tricks for product design
Unpacking the cognitive biases that influence our perception of things, ELEKS explains how learning a few core cognitive principles can help design teams optimise products with minimal budget and effort. Thus, significantly increasing the chances of success.
ELEKS design events feature discussions with industry-leading design experts, aimed at shedding light on the design experience. The series covers how design influences everyday life, how the industry is evolving and what that means for the product design approach. The goal is to create a knowledge-sharing platform that allows business leaders greater insight into the design experience, instilling a Design Thinking approach within product development.
