“Let's stop talking about cybercrime - digital is just the way crime is being done now!” exclaimed Greg William, Editor-in-Chief of Wired UK, in his opening keynote. Not shying away from controversy, the prolific journalist and author of five books was busy setting the stage for the upcoming discussion. Over 50 invited guests and ELEKS experts were already eager to jump into the discussion – but only after Dr. Iurii Garasym, ELEKS CIO and CISO, shared his vision of how cyber security will develop in the next years.
The evening marked the official launch of the ELEKS Tech Talk series, bringing together some of the world’s most renowned technology thought leaders with ELEKS’ top IT experts. Alternating between the IT capitals of the world, the Tech Talk series gathers selected guests for the discussion of new trends in IT and their impact on economy and society.
The Berlin premiere had the motto “Cyber Security Emerging Threats” and analyzed the threat potential of IT trends meeting the real world. ELEKS’ Dr. Iurii Garasym pointed out that especially Artificial Intelligence holds new – and as of today poorly understood – possibilities for attack vectors. Greg Williams chimed in, showing how increasingly life-like fake videos and chats can lift social engineering threats to a completely new level.
But as the audience engaged in a lively discussion with the presenters over a glass of wine, one thing became clear: as varied as emerging threats may be, digitalization also holds the key for novel ways of defense. And so, after a long evening of analysis and discussion, one thing was all but certain: whether we consider it cybercrime or just old-fashioned crime using new tools – the world of cyber security has never been more exciting, and will hold plenty of challenges to be discussed on upcoming ELEKS Tech Talks!
