Wasteer was on a mission to improve the efficiency of waste-to-energy plants by digitising and controlling waste flows. It sought to not only increase profitability with its software solutions but also to significantly improve the CO2 balance of its clients.
Wasteer approached ELEKS to research intelligent ways of managing the waste stream to maximise energy recovery and revenue and to develop a prototype application that can recommend effective plant management strategies. Wasteer’s key concerns were reducing operational effort, optimising energy output and boosting knowledge of material stocks.
Initially, the ELEKS team conducted a product discovery phase to understand the waste-to-energy plants’ current operations, processes and pain points through knowledge-sharing sessions, on-site visits and user interviews. Using the gathered information, we created an interactive prototype app for streamlined waste management that visualized real-time energy production potential and related costs. The envisaged application had to consider the cost of production, the additional revenue potential after adjusting for market prices and operational optimisation based on capacity, capabilities and cost.
After the discovery phase, Wasteer returned to ELEKS with a partially developed product. Collaborating closely with Wasteer's internal teams to deliver faster results, we updated the backend, enhancing its stability, and ensuring scalability. The ELEKS team successfully worked on the admin panel of the solution, which enables administrators to manage database records, users, permissions and document uploads. We also helped deliver an application to optimize waste
management within waste treatment plants. Now, ELEKS data science experts are working on a computer vision component for waste recognition.
Wasteer was able to transform its vision into a functional prototype of an app that could cover the whole waste management value chain, bringing the company closer to its goal of making waste management more efficient and cost and resource-effective while helping its clients adopt more environmentally friendly operations and maximise energy recovery.
