In the highly regulated European gas market, every operator, including GRTGaz, must provide regular reports on the state of their operations. These reports create a flow of multiple heterogeneous data. The envisaged appygas portal would unify both the most up-to-date and historical information on all European gas flows, pipelines and storages. Ultimately, it had to help European gas traders and analysts identify trading opportunities, execute trades faster, as well as plan and calculate the cost of gas transportation based on the aggregated data’s analysis.
The appygas team was looking for a vendor who could demonstrate market knowledge and lead them through the development process. During an on-site pre-sale visit, the ELEKS team impressed appygas with their ability to instantly grasp their industry’s peculiarities and understand the drivers behind the project.

appygas is a portal that provides its users with relevant European gas market data such as gas flows, use rates and network balances, maintenance schedules, hub and transport prices, all in one convenient place. The portal presents data in an appealing visual form making the gas market easy to understand.
The ELEKS team started working on the project by offering our client a complimentary product design workshop. We aimed to analyse the idea behind the portal and think through the needs and possible barriers together with our client. The user experience was one of the project’s cornerstones. We focused on creating intuitive usability to facilitate platform adoption, as well as lucid visualisation tools to allow for easy comparisons of complex data.
The development team was staffed in just two weeks and immediately started delivering results. By establishing clear communication and reporting practices, we allowed our client to see the project’s progress and effectively mitigate potential risks and problems. The system was delivered against a challenging deadline of only four months, allowing the client to showcase the new digital experience at a highly reputed annual industry event.
In its current version, appygas integrates data from more than 60 independent data sources. It has a set of inbuilt tools that normalise and transform the data, apply complex mathematical calculations and aggregation formulas to make the portal produce actionable outputs. appygas has four functional modules: Route Calculator, Flow Maps, Maintenance Maps and Traders’ Forum, and covers the following gas markets: Germany, BeLux, France, Spain, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Slovakia, Austria, Ukraine, and Poland.
