Building an Integrated POS and Retail ERP Solution for a Middle Eastern Construction Leader
Summary
Key construction player sought to augment its offering with innovative retail solutions
A key retail construction player in the Middle East, Abdulla Al-Mis’hal’s primary focus is building trade malls in the region. It wanted to augment its retail lease offering with an integrated POS and retail ERP system created specifically for the needs of its SMB leasees.
After a stringent conceptualisation and vendor selection process, Abdulla Al-Mis’hal chose ELEKS to help it build its MVP.
ELEKS helped the client deliver a comprehensive MVP with enhanced retail functionality
We came on board to help Abdulla Al-Mis’hal deliver an MVP of a robust retail solution to enable rapid market entry with minimal risk, initially targeting supermarkets and grocery stores as its primary customers.
The comprehensive MVP, delivered in 16 months, comprises the following:
- Retail POS terminal with custom Android app for B2C sales within the retail outlets. The terminal is integrated with various other devices, including scales, QR code readers, barcode readers for warehouse operations, fingerprint scanners for authorisation, EFTPOS payment terminals and more.
- Retail local web application for administrators to configure and maintain the POS terminals, manage transaction data and manage stock, pricing and user authorisations in-store.
- Back-office web application for managing supply and accounting through modules such as back-office admin, customers and vendors, sales and purchases, inventory and warehouse and finance and reporting. This back-office app was built on top of a highly customised third-party open-source ERP application.
Once validated by the market, Abdulla Al-Mis’hal plans to expand the POS solution with extra modules and enhanced functionality to bring more value to its clients and tap into new market segments.
A comprehensive MVP to pave the way into new market segments
Abdulla Al-Mis’hal has a market-ready MVP that will allow it to enter the market and build on its early successes. The integrated retail system was successfully deployed to the pre-production environment, and ELEKS’ experts trained the client to set up customer implementations.
Post-project, impressed by ELEKS’ capabilities, Abdulla Al-Mis’hal has entered a partnership agreement with ELEKS Software Middle East LLC, the Middle East-region arm of ELEKS, which operates under ELEKS’ umbrella brand. This partnership will set the stage for ELEKS Software Middle East to expand its reach and innovative expertise throughout the Middle East and North African region, starting with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

Right from the start, we really liked ELEKS’ commitment and engagement. They came to us with their best people to try to understand our context, our business idea, and developed the first prototype with us. They were very professional and very customer oriented. I think, without ELEKS it probably would not have been possible to have such a successful product in such a short period of time.
ELEKS has been involved in the development of a number of our consumer-facing websites and mobile applications that allow our customers to easily track their shipments, get the information they need as well as stay in touch with us. We’ve appreciated the level of ELEKS’ expertise, responsiveness and attention to details.
