Augmenting DevOps Expertise to Optimise a Continuous Controls Monitoring Platform
Panaseer needed specialist DevOps expertise to evolve its Continuous Controls Monitoring platform
Panaseer is a cybersecurity company that helps large enterprises gain continuous, real-time visibility into the effectiveness of their security controls. Its core product is a Continuous Controls Monitoring platform that aggregates data from across an organisation's security, IT, and business tools to build verified asset inventories, detect control gaps, and deliver actionable insights.
As Panaseer looked to implement a series of significant changes to the platform, spanning cloud migration, infrastructure optimisation, and process improvement, the company recognised that its internal team needed to be augmented with additional DevOps capability. Drawing on ELEKS' track record of delivering engineering expertise to technology companies, Panaseer engaged us to provide that service.
A broad programme of migration, automation, and infrastructure optimisation
ELEKS supplemented Panaseer's team with dedicated DevOps engineers who addressed a wide range of needs, from cloud migration and CI/CD improvements to security hardening and process automation.
One of the first priorities was a migration from ModSecurity to AWS WAF. Following Panaseer's migration of its web application to AWS CloudFront, ELEKS helped the client replace ModSecurity, the existing web application firewall, with AWS WAF. The team implemented AWS-managed rule groups within the WAF Access Control List configuration and adjusted several managed rules by switching them to count mode to accommodate client application-specific exclusions. Incoming requests are labelled by these rules and subsequently examined by custom rules that permit only those requests that meet the defined exclusion conditions, whilst blocking all others.
ELEKS engineers also led the migration of Panaseer's applications from EC2 servers to the serverless platform AWS ECS Fargate. The scope of this migration encompassed the presentation API, ETL server API, connector management component, and additional services. The move to ECS Fargate improved control over application changes and their maintainability, while also enhancing overall reliability.
In parallel, ELEKS automated the provision of temporary access to client accounts within Panaseer's infrastructure for developers and support engineers. Where access had previously been managed through time-consuming, ad hoc manual requests, the process is now governed by a structured approval workflow with full auditability.
Beyond these targeted workstreams, ELEKS engineers drove broader infrastructure optimisation, including scaling environments and strengthening platform security, which together reduced incidents and significantly lowered infrastructure costs.
