Fleming-AOD is committed to the continuous improvement of their software products, and they pursue the technological advances and demands of the market. They came to ELEKS for several functional and technological upgrades to their patient assessment instrument (PAI) to meet the upcoming update in healthcare industry regulations. An upgrade had to equip the existing PAI with an offline tool that would allow documentation of pre-admission assessments in remote patient locations.
Fleming-AOD also required a technological modernisation of the PAI for streamlined updates, cost-effective maintenance and ease of use. With plans to expand their market reach, Fleming-AOD also requested another version of the PAI specially tailored for long-term acute care hospitals.
We offered Fleming-AOD an alternative to their initial plan of creating several native applications for different mobile platforms: a thin-client database Web solution that accumulated the data offline during pre-admission assessments and uploaded it during the next connection to the hospital’s network. The ELEKS team implemented the changes to the architecture that helped to optimise the amount of work and effort needed to release the product. The core functionality was released in four weeks instead of the previously estimated four months.
Any computer or tablet connected to the Internet could be a terminal for the PAI. For most Fleming-AOD clients, that translated to no additional hardware or IT costs associated with the implementation of the solution. The subscription-based system could easily be updated from one central location without the need for any on-site maintenance or distribution of updates. We also redesigned the system component that exported data for analysis from other systems. We rebuilt the architecture of the tool which led to faster performance; the data from 10,000 patients were processed in seconds instead of the previous version’s hour.
When Fleming-AOD made a strategic decision to enter a new market niche — long-term acute care hospitals — we helped them modify their system so that it satisfied the data collection requirements for this new type of facility. Now, we continue to support our client in enhancing the product by modernising its features, keeping compliant with regulations and accelerating performance.
The client saw a four-fold decrease in development costs by building a cross-platform Web solution for remote patient assessment instead of a set of native apps. Its architecture transformation allowed for propagation of centralised updates to the PAI providing for easier product evolution.
ELEKS’ delivery against tight schedules allowed our client to be among the first solution providers on the market to comply with new government regulations.
The breadth of knowledge and understanding that ELEKS has within its walls allows us to leverage that expertise to make superior deliverables for our customers. When you work with ELEKS, you are working with the top 1% of the aptitude and engineering excellence of the whole country.
Right from the start, we really liked ELEKS’ commitment and engagement. They came to us with their best people to try to understand our context, our business idea, and developed the first prototype with us. They were very professional and very customer oriented. I think, without ELEKS it probably would not have been possible to have such a successful product in such a short period of time.
ELEKS has been involved in the development of a number of our consumer-facing websites and mobile applications that allow our customers to easily track their shipments, get the information they need as well as stay in touch with us. We’ve appreciated the level of ELEKS’ expertise, responsiveness and attention to details.
